Dover Street to NYC

The New York Times has revealed that COMME des GARCONS are currently searching for a location in New York City to open their third Dover Street Market mini-department store. (The other two are located in Ginza, Tokyo, and London’s Chelsea)

We’re big fans of the London store so can’t wait to see the New York version in 2013.

Nike+ Fuelstation

Nike is opening its first-ever Nike+ Fuelstation outlet at the world’s first pop-up mall, Boxpark in Shoreditch.

Designed in-house by the Nike brand design team in The Netherlands, the new space ‘mixes the human and the digital world’, according to Andy Walker, global design director at Nike.

‘It’s unlike any other Nike store – we’re changing the way we do retail.’

The Fuelstation, which is installed across nine Boxpark crates, features augmented reality, interactive information screens and digital mannequins.

The entrance area features a wall that reacts when visitors walk past, changing from green to red, as well as an area which uses Kinect technology to create an avatar ‘portrait’ of the visitor, which can then be uploaded to social media (watch this space for Lovely Neil’s video!). There are also iPads and digital mannequin ‘mirrors’, in which digital characters model clothes.

There is space for a running consultant and a physio, while the upper level features further Nike products.

‘It’s not a traditional retail space – it’s more of a brand showcase, and it also works as a community hub.’ The space will be a meeting place for Nike running clubs.

The Nike+ Fuelstation opens next week, definitely one to check out.

Bright Young Things

Following the success of 2011’s ‘Bright Young Things’, the pioneering project by Selfridges to seek out and champion the most exciting young creators in the UK, January 2012 sees us re-launch the campaign on an even greater scale.

The second Bright Young Things scheme features a total of fifteen UK-based emerging talents from the worlds of fashion, art and design and food.

Running until the end of February, each of the Bright Young Things will take over an Oxford Street or Duke Street window – their brief is solely to communicate the essence of their work. With one million people walking past the famous windows every week, the displays provide an incredible launch-pad for these fledgling designers to showcase their creations to the public.

The Bright Young Things’ products will be available to buy from three pop up shops in store as well as online at

Definitely worth checking out – both the windows outside and the pop-ups inside!
